Don’t get dinged.

Scan your apartment or rental car when you get it, and again when you give it back. Dinged finds what changed, measures it, and seals the proof.

Move-in
Move-out
  • Already there
  • New scuff, 14 mm (0.55 in)
Illustration: two scans of the same wall, lined up. The mark that was already there at move-in stays blue. Only the new one is flagged.
How it works

Scan it. Seal it. Prove it.

Two scans of the same place, lined up, so the question “was that there before?” has an answer.

  1. Scan it

At move-in or pickup, follow the guide around each room or the car. Coverage fills in as you go, so nothing gets skipped. At move-out or return, scan again the same way.

  2. Seal it

Each scan is sealed the moment it’s taken. Every file is fingerprinted, signed by a key that never leaves your iPhone, and time-stamped by an independent service.

  3. Prove it

Dinged lines up the two scans, flags what changed and measures it in millimeters. You confirm every finding, then share a Condition Record anyone can check.

Two modes

Your apartment. Your rental car.

Home mode

For renters, students and roommates. Keep your deposit for the things you didn’t do.

  • Scan room by room at move-in. Walls and floor turn green as they’re covered.
  • Pin damage that’s already there, with its size.
  • Re-scan at move-out with a ghost overlay that lines up each view.
  • Sort every change: new, already there, not damage, or normal wear.
  • Invite your landlord to co-sign the move-in record.

Move-in, mid-lease problems, move-out.

Car mode

For rental counters, car share and Turo trips. A few minutes at pickup beats a surprise bill later.

  • Reads the VIN, plate, odometer and fuel gauge.
  • A guided walk-around: 8 spots at 2 heights, plus wheels, glass and bumpers.
  • A reminder when you reach the return lot.
  • The same walk-around at return, compared spot by spot.

Rentals, car share, Turo, your own car, lease returns.

Anyone can verify

Don’t take our word for it. Check.

Every Condition Record carries a QR code. Scan it and the record opens in any browser, with no app and no account. The page re-does the math itself, on the viewer’s device.

A changed pixel, a swapped photo or an edited date shows up as a mismatch. See what the verify page checks.

  • Device signatureECDSA P-256, key in the Secure Enclave
  • File fingerprintsSHA-256 of every image shown
  • Merkle rootOne root over every file in the scan
  • Independent timestampRFC 3161 token, checkable with OpenSSL. Coming next; until then the page says “device time only”
Fair Charge

What should that repair actually cost?

When a deduction comes in, Dinged puts a typical repair-cost range for your area next to it. The range is built from public wage and price data, and every source is listed with its date.

Fair Charge is an estimate, not a quote, and not legal advice. It’s calculated the same way for everyone, and no sponsor or partner can change a price.

  • Repair methodfrom damage type, size, surface
  • Local labor rateBLS wage data for your metro
  • MaterialsBEA regional price parities
  • Typical rangelow to high, with sources

A charge well above the range is labeled “Above typical range,” shown side by side with the evidence.
